DuoKaleidoscope with romantic flutes from 19th century

Do you want to know what the romanic flute is? How it looks, sounds? Come to our recital on the 1st of December at cosy Studio Sophia in The Hague at 15.00.

We will perform for you 19th century virtuoso salon music originally written for two flutes. At that time opera was the most popular musical genre. And people wanted to enjoy their favourite opera tunes not only in the theaters but at the house or salon concerts.

Our program consists of virtuoso flute duos by Kuhlau, Doppler, Tulou and Briccialdi. Some of those compositions are based on popular opera themes.

RITUELEN VAN DOOD EN LEVEN

We are joining the opening event of "Rituelen van dood en leven" by our friend Sergio Cruz!

Wilhelm Friedemann Bach at Mosterdzaadje

Dear Friends we would like to invite you to our next concert on September 11 in Mosterdzaadje concert hall in Sandpoord-Noord. We will perform for you 6 duets by J.S. Bach's eldest son, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach. This is an unique opportunity to listen all of them in one concert.

  • No.1 e-minor
    Allegro - Larghetto - Vivace
  • No.2 G-major
Allegro ma non troppo - Cantabile - Allabreve - Gigue (Allegro)
  •  No.3 E flat -major
Allegro - Adagio ma non molto - Presto
  •  No.4 F-major
    Allegro e moderato - Lamentabile - Presto
  •  No.5 E flat major
Un poco Allegro - Largo - Vivace
  •  No.6 f-minor
Un poco Allegro - Largo - Vivace

These six duets are remarkable set of the smallest chamber music for two flutes, written in the style of the end of Baroque and the beginning of Classical era. Composer treated the both parts of the flutes as equally important voice, so that while one is playing melody, the other won’t hide itself into an accompaniment. Some of these duets were composed in the tonalities that were not often used for the flute music in the 18th century (like E flat major or f minor); these tonalities have more muffled or shadowed tones than the others. This combination of the tonality makes these six duets more interesting and unique among the same repertoire.

  • Zalencentrum Rehoboth, Berkel en Roderijs (map)

We would like to present our new program, full of colouful gems of flute duos from late 17th century to 20th century. Throughout the centuries, flute makers used different types of materials and key systems to achieve their needs, and the sound often changed from instrument to instrument and period to period. French Baroque repertoire favoured the authentic 3pieces French Baroque flute, which surprises listeners with its mild and sonorous timbre. Modern music requires a completely different, more brilliant sound.  Similarly, classical compositions are most convincing when played on instruments specific to those periods.

Program: Works by

  • Michel de La Barre (ca.1675 – 1745)
  • Jean-Joseph Mouret (1682-1738)
